Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that focuses on occlusion irregularities and alignment concerns. If your bite isn’t lining up functionally or your teeth aren’t as straight as you’d like, an orthodontist or a dentist trained in orthodontic treatment can help.
Orthodontics is just one of the comprehensive dental health services offered at Dental Depot. Our Oklahoma City orthodontists and orthodontic-trained doctors can help with everything from minor gaps and spacing in your smile to complex realignment treatments.

Orthodontists and orthodontic-trained doctors use their specific training and knowledge to address a patient’s unique concerns with the best possible treatment option. At Dental Depot in Oklahoma City, our priority is ensuring our patients receive the highest quality care for their oral health, so you’ll never get a one-size-fits-all treatment plan.
Braces consist of brackets that are adhered to the teeth with dental cement, then threaded through with thin wire. Throughout treatment, the wires are tightened or adjusted–usually every four to six weeks–to slowly and gently straighten the teeth, leaving the teeth functioning better and improving the patient’s smile. More significant alignment issues may require longer treatment times, but the average treatment time is under two years.
Clear aligners like Invisalign® are an alternative to braces. They consist of clear removable trays custom-molded to fit your teeth snugly. The trays are worn for up to 22 hours daily and only removed for eating, cleaning, and routine dental care. The trays are switched out every one to two weeks at home, but regular in-person visits to the orthodontist or dentist’s office help make sure the treatment is progressing as it should and that the teeth are moving properly. Most patients wear clear alignment trays between 6-12 months, with more severe cases requiring more time. Clear aligners are a great option for adults and older teens because they are nearly invisible, and treatment typically doesn’t last as long as traditional braces.
Palate expanders are required when the roof or base of the mouth is too narrow. This common dental problem doesn’t allow enough room for the teeth to be straightened with braces or aligners. Expanding the palate creates additional space, allowing existing teeth to be straightened or adult teeth to erupt in the appropriate location. While they are most commonly used on the upper jaw, they can also be used on the lower jaw for severe cases.
Palate expanders work by slowly pushing the bones in the roof of the mouth apart. Once the palate has been completely separated, it’s left in place a bit longer to allow new bone to form. This new bone reconnects the palates and creates additional space for teeth to develop or be straightened.
Retainers are most often used to support and preserve the post-treatment results of braces or aligners. Once those are removed, and the straightening process is completed, retainers are worn to prevent the teeth from shifting back into their original position. Some retainers are removable, made of metal and plastic, and clipped onto the teeth. Others are permanent and consist of a single piece of metal or fiber wire attached to the back of the teeth. Keeping the teeth straight by wearing a retainer after major orthodontic work is essential to keeping the results of your treatment permanent.

Retention is a crucial phase of orthodontic treatment. Without proper retention, teeth can revert to their original positions. This is called relapse and may particularly affect the lower front teeth. To ensure your smile remains beautiful, it’s important to wear a retainer for life.
We understand that retainers can be lost or damaged over time, and the Smile Protection Assurance Plan allows you to purchase three sets of clear retainers per year for three years at a discounted price. Contact an associate to learn more about this affordable option.
