6 Tips to Keep You Smiling All Summer Long!

Summer is getting underway and whether you’ll be hitting the wide open trails or flocking to the beach, we have 6 tips to keep your smile healthy and strong all summer long.
1. Remember to pack your dental tools!
You’re in for a pretty gross vacation if you leave your toothbrush at home. Double check to make sure you bring it with you and don’t forget to bring along equally important toothpaste and floss!
2. Stay hydrated.
We know that there’s a lot of drink choices while you’re on vacation and many of those drinks have tons of sugar. Rinse with water to increase the flow of saliva in the mouth to keep teeth moist and prevent plaque from sticking to your teeth.
3. Schedule a check-up for the whole family.
Nothing can ruin a vacation faster than a dental emergency and while we’ve got your back on Saturdays, you might not be able to find a local dentist open where you’re vacationing. Get ahead of any potential problems by getting the family in for a check-up and any work they may need before you hit the road.
4. Choose healthy snacks.
Food can be one of the best things about vacation, but don’t let all those sweets get to your teeth. Remember to rinse your mouth after sugary snacks and desserts to maintain your good oral hygiene habits even when you’re on vacation.
5. Make sure your toothbrush is totally dry before you put a cap on it.
At home, we have the option of leaving our toothbrush out to dry on the counter, but this isn’t always possible when you’re enjoying a trip. If you choose to put a cap protector over your toothbrush, make sure you dry it off first, because those covers can trap bacteria inside with your bristles.
6. Chew gum.
Chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes after a meal can make enough saliva to help wash away the bacteria left over from your meal. While it’s no substitution for brushing and flossing, it’ll tide you over until you get back to your room.
