Pair her personality with her skill as a dental assistant and it’s no surprise that she is considered to be a great asset to her team and the Dental Depot family.
“Christen is one of the most hardworking, kind, generous, genuinely happy people that I have ever met in my life. She always goes above and beyond and she’s a pure joy to work with,” said Teala Cormier, a dental hygienist who works with Christen.
As we sat around the breakroom table, interviewing Christen for this blog, her teammates began to trickle in for their lunch break and they couldn’t help but chime in about their experiences working with Christen.
“I have overheard some of her conversations with patients and she knows how to connect with everyone on one level or another,” Teala said.
For example, Christen had everyone laughing when she told a story about a teenage patient she helped recently.
“[The patient] is big into horror movies, and so am I,” Christen said. “We were doing her nitrous and I said it might feel like she was floating.” When the patient questioned, ‘I’m gonna float?’ Christen said she answered with a line from the recently released IT Movie, ‘We all float [in] here.’
The patient’s response? A resounding, “yaaaassss!”
And there you have it, a connection made on one level or another.
“I get to know a little bit about them, and they get to know a little bit about me,” Christen said. “But my favorite thing about my job is when I get to deliver a denture, seeing someone who has been covering their smile for a long time and all of the sudden they’re happy and can’t stop smiling – that’s the best.”
In addition to her patients, Christen said the people she works with make her job a happy place to be.
“Just being around my coworkers is great,” Christen said, giving specific shout-outs to Dr. Case’s lead assistant, Shalonda, as well as Delano Debro and Teala Cormier, both hygienists, whom she credits with inspiring her and encouraging her to pursue a degree and career in dental hygiene.
“I wanted to be a James Bond girl, that was my deal,” she said of her childhood dreams. “My mom is like please don’t tell people that!”
But if you were to ask her mom, she would tell you that when Christen was a child, she talked most about wanting to be a dentist.
In the end, Christen said life – getting married and raising three sons – is what led her to postpone her education and to become a dental assistant now that her boys are in their teenage years.
“I think it was preordained for me to [go to school] later in life,” she said. “I would’ve loved to have gone to school earlier, but I think it worked out for the best.”
A 2016 graduate of the Platt College dental assisting program, Christen was encouraged by two of her instructors to join the team at Dental Depot. Upon finishing her eight-week externship with the company, Christen joined the team officially in March 2017.
“I’ve had the opportunity to advance quickly,” Christen said of her time at Dental Depot. “It was unexpected and I’m glad that I’m doing a good enough job that this is happening for me. I’ve only been here six months, and I’ve already been put in charge of things and made my team’s OSHA leader.”
“I’m so happy here, it’s flowing over into my home life,” she said. “I’m happy when I go home, so my husband, bless his heart, doesn’t have to hear me talk about a bad day. He gets the happy me.”
When Christen isn’t working, she enjoys spending sports-centered time with her family. Her sons play football, baseball, basketball, run track and weightlift, and she and her husband play on a co-ed softball team. Christen and her family also enjoy spending time with Apollo, their black lab, and Karma, their Patterdale Terrier. Christen Green was nominated for Dental Depot Employee of the Month by Dr. Case and many of the team members at Dental Depot of Moore:
Christen’s amazing! She cares about every patient and is very attentive. She’s a very hard worker, willing to do anything when asked and is always positive about it. Christen is always the first one to grab patients after lunch and volunteers to work through lunch.” – Jessica Miller, Dental Depot of Moore Office Manager
“She always goes above and beyond to help in every way she can. Great attitude. Wonderful personality. Hard working always keeps busy. She’s a wonderful employee always showcasing Dental Depots core values.” – Evelyn Sanders, Dental Depot of Moore Assistant Office Manager
“Christen interned here at Moore then was hired full-time as an assistant. Christen has displayed exceptional attitude and willingness to be a team player. She doesn’t complain or worry about if she will have to help through lunch or stay late. She is a tremendous asset to Dental Depot and has been a pleasure to work with. Christen is continually showing the ability and willingness to pitch and help to make this office run smoothly. I feel she is deserving of this award and am hopeful she will get it.” – Dr. Jay Case, DDS at Dental Depot of Moore.
Dental Depot is a locally owned and operated family company. As such, we believe that the incredible group of doctors, hygienists, assistants and staff that make up Dental Depot are more than their job titles; they’re members of our extended family. In our family, we like to recognize when someone goes above and beyond, living the Dental Depot values. This September, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Employee of the Month Christen Green.
