There’s nothing that can stand in the way of a woman on a mission, and Padin Cagle, a team member at our Broken Arrow office, is that woman. Despite the hardships she’s endured, her strength, character and determination have carried her through.
Padin has been on her own for as long as she can remember. Her mother spiraled down a dark hole of drug addiction after her divorce and left Padin and her two younger siblings very much alone to fend for themselves.
“She ended up basically abandoning us,” Padin said. “She would leave before I got home from school and be out all day and night partying, drinking and doing drugs and would come home early in the morning.”
Padin recalled being only ten years old, acting as the primary caregiver to her three- and four-year-old siblings and walking them down the street to daycare before heading to school herself.
“They called me ‘mom’ at one point,” Padin said. “There were times we didn’t even have electricity or water or food, it was crazy.”
Despite all of this, Padin hasn’t let her past hold her back. Today, Padin is a student at Tulsa Community College while working full-time to put herself through school. More than that, she’s earning promotions and leadership skills along the way!
In less than one year with Dental Depot, Padin has quickly moved up the ranks from an entry-level business office associate position to embarking on the management track as part of our Leadership in Training program.
Padin stays humble, crediting her success and growth to old-fashioned hard work and dedication. We know that she’ll succeed at whatever she decides to do, and her team does, too.
“Padin has proven that she is willing to put in the work that it takes to move up in the company and she does an amazing job,” said Donna Zirger-Benjamin, manager of Dental Depot Broken Arrow.
“I’m proud of where I’m at in life. I’m going to school and I have a job,” Padin said. “I didn’t fall to the same things my mom did and I’m the first one in my family to graduate high school. It’s the little accomplishments that mean the most.”
Padin said she believes that an education will take her further than anyone in her family, and give her the opportunity to provide for her own family in the future. Because to Padin, education equals opportunity.
“I’m still in school. I’m stuck between wanting to be an attorney or being a detective,” Padin said. “I grew up with a hard life and it just made me want to make the world a better place. I really want to help children who are in bad situations and get them to where they can have a positive attitude and a good outlook on life, because it’s tough.”
While Padin may not plan to continue working in the dental field after graduation, we’re proud to say that we had the unique opportunity to be a part of her journey on the road to success.
When Padin isn’t at work or school, she relaxes at home by watching Netflix with her wiener dog, Bentley. She enjoys fishing and spending time with her sisters.
Padin was nominated for Employee of the Month by her coworkers at Dental Depot Broken Arrow.
“Padin can make it happen, work fast, efficiently, and resolve any problem. We enjoy working alongside her!” – Kara Chitty, dental hygienist.
“Padin is a rock star! She works very hard and deserves a promotion and a raise! While Donna was on vacation she held the fort down and handled everything well! She has so much potential!” – Allyssa Vang, dental assistant.
“No matter how much stress she’s under, she never lets it show, and does her work without complaint. If a patient or even an employee comes to her with a concern she always listens and takes action! She deserves this! Proud of her!”
Dental Depot is a locally owned and operated family company. As such, we believe that the incredible group of doctors, hygienists, assistants and staff that make up Dental Depot are more than their job titles; they’re members of our extended family. In our family, we like to recognize when someone goes above and beyond, living the Dental Depot values. This September, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Employee of the Month Padin Cagle.
