There’s not a lot that ruffles Katherine Watts. And as someone who has had the pleasure of working with her, she’s always seemed cool under pressure. But the truth of Katherine’s relaxed demeanor is perhaps much simpler: she’s genuinely happy about where she works and who she gets to work with.
Katherine is a patient account service representative (PASR) at Dental Depot Yukon. And, like most of the team at Yukon, she’s been there a long time – nearly eight years.
“When I was hired there was a position called a CSR and we answered all of the phones and did all of the recall for the office,” Katherine said. “I did that for about a year before I moved to the front desk and then I moved to treatment coordinating.”
Katherine was a patient care coordinator (PCC), as the position is now known, for about three or four years before she moved to her position as a PASR in September 2016.
“I’ve been at Yukon the whole time,” Katherine said. “I’ve seen a lot of people, a lot of change. But it’s been very enjoyable to be here.”
Change is a normal part of growing at Dental Depot. Dental Assistants and PCCs often follow their doctors to open new offices, and getting a promotion often requires moving to a new office for further development and training. So for Katherine to have been at the same office the entire time she’s been with Dental Depot, it’s given her a unique insight to the culture of what makes our Yukon office so special.
“I like that we always celebrate — like when Janis [Unruh, former Yukon assistant manager] and Keghan [Peebles, former treatment coordinator] got promoted — we always make sure everybody gets a cake,” Katherine said. “We’ll get cakes for birthdays, too, and we usually decorate for holidays and I like that.”
Walk into the Yukon Dental Depot any time of year, in fact, and you’re bound to find some sort of holiday decorations. Just this last October, the office won Dental Depot’s team Halloween costume contest by transforming their office and outdoor train park into their very own rendition of Hogwarts!
“We did the whole Harry Potter thing this year. I just did whatever they told me to do,” Katherine said with a laugh. “But, gosh, they planned it at least a month. Everyone pitched in to decorate.”
And while Katherine loves all of her coworkers, it’s with her fellow PASR Lorna Richardson, that she says she relies on the most.
“It’s been me and Lorna the last two years. She came just a few weeks after I went to [PASR],” Katherine said. “Lorna is amazing. She’s my other half, I don’t know what I’d do without her sometimes.”
Katherine says her positive relationships with her coworkers are important to her, especially since she estimates that she spends more time with them than her family. But, Katherine says, when she is at home with her three-year-old daughter Rylee, and husband Aaron, it’s all about quality time and adventure.
“We like to do activities. We went to the science museum and the OKC Zoo and we’ve been playing a lot of board games together,” Katherine said. “We’re planning a trip up to Tulsa soon to do the zoo and the aquarium there.”
Katherine’s family also includes two dachshunds, Rex and Hamilton, but it is photos of Rylee that cover Katherine’s desk at work. As for any other additions to the family…the jury is still out.
“Aaron wants one more [kid]. I’m indecisive,” Katherine said. “But, my sister is pregnant so maybe I’ll catch some baby fever. But no more dogs!”
Katherine was nominated for Employee of the Month by her coworkers at Dental Depot Yukon.
“Katherine started with Dental Depot 7 years ago as a BOA & has worked her way up the ladder through hard work and dedication to become an amazing PASR. All of her fellow coworkers know they can rely on her to not only get her job done but also to help out with anything else the office needs. She walks into work into work every day with a smile on her face ready to take on the day. Besides being a valued employee, she is also a loving mother and devoted wife.”
Dental Depot is a locally owned and operated family company. As such, we believe that the incredible group of doctors, hygienists, assistants and staff that make up Dental Depot are more than their job titles; they’re members of our extended family. In our family, we like to recognize when someone goes above and beyond, living the Dental Depot values. This February, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Employee of the Month Katherine Watts.
